So a while ago I shared my thoughts on how I dealt with using an older Mac with YouTube at 720p60fps. Turns out that after using that method for a while I didn't really like it. I did come up with a compromise though.

First off I noticed that it wasn't all 720p60fps YouTube videos that were causing the issue - just certain uploaders. Something with the way they have their videos encoded. So now I set out to just figure out how to fix those videos.

The (new) solution:
Instead of installing the YouView Safari extension, I removed it, but I did keep the YouView application installed. On any video that I found or those I knew from certain uploaders would lead to an extremely laggy system, I copied the URL of the video. I then opened YouView and pressed (command) + o, (command) + v, enter to load up the video. (Alternatively File > Open URL, Paste, Open URL)

While it's not the most elegant solution... (are any of my solutions ever?) it does work. And while some of the videos that I still do let play on YouTube may lag a bit when I try to do something else, it's not unbearable.
